At a Congress in Amsterdam in June 1928, FIFA scheduled the first World Football
Championship for 1930. The Organization and host for the tournament was decided in Barcelona in May 1929. The chosen country was Uruguay, whose national team had won the gold medal at the 1924 and 1928 Olympics. 13 teams took part in the tournament, divided into 4 groups: 3 of 3 national teams and 1 of 4. Group D was clearly
dominated by the United States, who made their debut defeating Belgium 3-0. The match against Paraguay ended with the same result: 3-0 victory for the North American ensemble.
